The Pillow Academy girls basketball team opened its 2022-2023 season with a 57-28 win over Oak Hill Tuesday night at the Impact Sports preseason tournament at Columbus Christian Academy.
The Lady Mustangs raced out to a 23-4 lead after the first frame and led 28-11 at the half. Pillow held a 45-17 advantage after the third quarter.
Addison Weems led the way with 12 points and five steals, and Avery Howard had 10 points, three assists, three rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
Alanna Hodo tacked on nine points and six steals, and Elise Howard had nine points and seven steals.
In the junior varsity game, Pillow beat Lamar School 52-6 as it held leads of 22-0 after one, 36-0 at the half and 46-3 after the third period.
Izzy Hodges had nine points, two assists and two rebounds, and Sara Michael Lary chipped in seven points and three rebounds. Ann Rogers Crowder had six points, two assists and two boards, and Madeline Carroll and Mere Austin Wilkey tallied six points each.
Pillow’s varsity team plays at 7 p.m. Thursday against Columbus Christian. The JV squad plays Columbus at 3 p.m.
Also, Carroll’s varsity team takes on Lamar School at 5 p.m., and its JV team plays Lamar at 4 p.m.
