Greenwood Leflore Hospital is reopening its After Hours Clinic just three months after closing it.
The clinic, which is located at 1601 Strong Ave., across the street from the main hospital buildings, will reopen Monday.
The clinic provides non-emergency care for patients who don’t have a primary care physician or who need treatment at times when their normal doctor is not available.
It will be open from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. Monday through Friday. Unlike previously, however, it will not be open on the weekends.
The After Hours Clinic was one of several medical services dropped over the past year as part of an austerity plan designed to keep the crash-strapped hospital’s doors open.
According to Gary Marchand, the interim CEO, the hospital’s operations team had recommended the clinic’s reopening. Members of that team include Dawne Holmes, chief financial officer; Key Britt, vice president of administrative services; and Jackie Brownlow, interim chief nursing officer.
“On balance, even though we had to respond to our cost challenges with service closures and layoffs, our operations team kept an open mind on the needs of the community,” Marchand said.
With the reopening of the After Hours Clinic, the hospital will be operating two primary-care clinics. The other is in Itta Bena. The hospital said in a statement that there no immediate plans to restore any other services but the operations team “is continuously evaluating services, revenue and operations for long-term viability.”
