The 9-Under Greenwood all-star baseball team swept through the competiton as they beat the Grenada all-stars 22-1 Sunday in the Dizzy Dean state tournament championship game in Cleveland.
Greenwood opened with a 19-3 win over Delta Sports on Thursday. They beat Cleveland 15-3 Saturday and returned to the field Sunday morning to defeat Grenada 23-9. The title game was played Sunday evening.
8U baseball: The Greenwood all-stars played the Cleveland Cyclones in the championship game of the 8-Under tournament in Cleveland Monday.
Greenwood advanced to the finals with a 13-2 win over the Cleveland All-Stars. Cleveland has two teams in the tournament.
Greenwood beat Southaven 10-2 earlier Saturday. They opened the tournament with a 10-9 win over the Cyclones Thursday.
6U baseball: Greenwood finished third overall at the 6-Under tournament in Cleveland as they lost to Starkville Maroon Sunday.
Starkville Maroon went on to lose to Cleveland in the championship game.
Greenwood had a long day Saturday. After opening the tournament with a 15-14 win over Grenada Thursday, they lost 18-11 to Starkville Maroon Saturday morning. They rebounded later Saturday to knock off Columbus 21-6 and then beat Starkville White 20-5 Sunday afternoon before playing Starkville Maroon.
7U baseball: The Greenwood all-stars went 1-2 in the 7-Under tournament in Louisville.
Greenwood opened with a 20-16 win over Starkville Maroon Thursday, but lost to Cleveland Saturday. They faced Starkville Maroon again Saturday afternoon, dropping out of the tourney with a loss.
10U baseball: Greenwood went 1-2 at the 10-Under tournament, falling out of the field wth a 15-0 setback to Southaven Saturday night.
Greenwood opened with a 12-1 win over Ripley Thursday. They lost 28-1 to Delta Sports Saturday afternoon.
12U baseball: The Greenwood 12-Under team went 2-2 at the state tournament in Senatobia over the weekend.
Greenwood was ousted from the tournament with a 12-10 loss to the Grenada youth all-stars Saturday afternoon.
Greenwood, which opened with a 20-0 win over Byhalia Thursday, dropped into the loser’s bracket with a 5-4 decsion to Southaven Friday. They rebounded Saturday morning to beat Clarksdale 7-6 before losing to Grenada.
8U softball: Greenwood made it to the state title game in the 8-Under Dizzy Dean tournament, dropping a decision to Grenada Sunday in Batesville.
Greenwood went 3-2 in the three-day tournament. They opened with a 15-5 win over Indianola on Thursday, and then knocked off Senatobia 17-14 Saturday. They met Grenada in the winner’s bracket finals, falling 17-14. Greenwood defeated Cleveland 12-6 to advance to a rematch with Grenada in the finals.
6U softball: The Greenwood all-stars bowed out of the 6-Under state tournament with a 16-8 loss to the Senatobia all-stars Saturday in Batesville.
Greenwood beat Caledonia 16-0 Friday, finishing 1-2 in the tournament. They opened tournament play with a 12-6 loss to Hernando on Thursday.
