The Greenwood High and Amanda Elzy basketball teams split a pair of games on the court Saturday at Elzy’s gymnasium.
The Bulldogs placed four players in double figures en route to a narrow 51-50 win over the Panthers to improve to 8-4.
GHS led 4-2 after the first period and took a 23-15 lead at the break. Elzy (6-6) outscored the Bulldogs 22-15 in the third to only trail 38-37 headed to the final period.
James Holmes and Javeon Smith had 12 points each for GHS. Holmes also had six rebounds, and Smith had four boards and three assists. Joseph Warren finished with 11 points and eight rebounds, and Markell Johnson tacked on 10 points and four rebounds.
For Elzy, Jacoreyun Miller had 17 points, and Keithrick Parker finished with 14. Perveontah Stancil had seven points, and Jevarion Glover had six.
In the girls game, Elzy came out on top 42-24 as Kennedy Johnson scored a game-high 15 points. Elzy (6-6) led 11-6 after one, 24-10 at the half and 42-14 after the third.
Zoreya Beckworth tacked on 10 points for Elzy, and Olivia Wilson had nine. Evelyn Kelly finished with six.
Ya’Kyla Stasher led Greenwood (2-10) with 13 points and blocked two shots. Amiya Jones had 10 and five rebounds.
Elzy plays host to Palmer Tuesday, and Greenwood entertains Greenville Tuesday.
Both schools played games Friday night.
At Elzy, the Lady Panthers and Panthers fell to visiting Grenada as the girls lost 52-34 and boys dropped a 76-56 decision.
Evelyn Kelly had 19 points, and Johnson seven for Elzy. Glover and Miller led the Panthers with 13 points each, and Zakavion McClung had 10 points. Stancil finished with nine.
At Greenwood, Holmes County Central swept the home teams. The Lady Bulldogs lost 47-12, and the boys fell 69-51.
Stasher and Jones had five points each with Jones grabbing seven rebounds. Daijah Turner had five boards for the girls.
In the boys game, Holmes had 11 points, six rebounds and six steals, and Smith had 11 points and three boards.
Johnson had nine points and three rebounds, and Warren had six points and five rebounds.
