The Greenwood Leflore Consolidated School District will be sending four teams to the first Middle School Basketball Invitational, which is being sanctioned by the Mississippi High School Activities Association.
The tournament gets started Friday for the four local teams. It will be hosted by Hinds Community College and be played at the Utica campus.
The Greenwood girls and boys will both play Friday against Richland Middle School at 3 and 4 p.m. At 5 p.m., the Amanda Elzy girls will take on Carver Middle School of Raymond, and the Leflore County boys will face Carver at 6 p.m.
The winners will play against each other Saturday in the second round. The third and fourth rounds are scheduled for Jan. 20-21.
All the games in the tournament are being played at junior colleges throughout the state. There are eight sites being used with four teams each in the girls and boys brackets.
