Yuletide Cheer: Singing Christmas Tree set Monday

A much loved holiday event, the Singing Christmas Tree, will illuminate the holiday season at 6:30 p.m. Monday with an outdoor performance at First Presbyterian Church.

This is the Singing Tree’s 44th Christmas program, and it is produced each year by the church as its gift to the community.

Keeping an eye on the Delta

When Tommy and Libba Goodman moved from Birmingham to Carrollton in 2008, Tommy was returning to particularly familiar places.
These are separate but physically connected. The ridge of hills that includes Carroll County rises from the Delta land, which stretches from Valley Hill to the Mississippi River.

Tropical storm and hurricane force winds pounded the metal siding of the Harrison County Courthouse for hours on August 29, 2005.
That sustained collision of wind and the metal created a humming sound.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
