Thompson says he’s willing to help hospital

Mississippi’s longest-tenured representative in Congress says he is willing to provide help to Greenwood’s nearly insolvent hospital if he is allowed a look at its financial records.
“I’ve never let you down,” said Rep. Bennie Thompson to the Greenwood Voters League on Wednesday.

Littleton says he wants to give back

A candidate for Leflore County Court judge says he wants to experience the joy of helping others and giving back to the community.
James Littleton, a current Leflore County Justice Court judge, spoke to the Greenwood Voters League Wednesday. He is challenging incumbent Kevin Adams in the Nov. 8 general election.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
