State still needs more nurses

If you’re looking for a demanding but rewarding job, Mississippi still needs more nurses.
The state’s director of nursing education told the College Board last week, according to the Magnolia Tribune website, that total enrollment in nursing programs was down by 18 people during the 2023-24 school year, from 3,865 to 3,847.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
