It would be nice if all of Greenwood’s residents took pride in their community and were considerate of others. If that were the case, this city would have no litter problem.
Unfortunately, some people are inconsiderate. They think nothing about tossing an empty beer can, a soft-drink cup or a fast-food wrapper out of their car window and driving away.
So, those who want our community to look nice must take it upon themselves to clean up after them. It’s the only realistic way to reduce the amount of litter.
This coming week the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce is once again spearheading an effort to get individuals and groups to pick up the discarded trash in Greenwood and the surrounding area. At least a couple of hundred people are expected to pitch in.
Please join them. Your participation can make an immediate difference. And who knows, maybe some litterbugs will see you, feel guilty and vow to change their ways.
There’s always hope.
