Every Christmas, there are many worthy charitable causes appealing to the generous spirit that pervades the season.
Our advice is to pick a local charity, as you are more likely to know the people running it and can feel confident your donation will go where intended.
If you have not settled on a cause to help in Greenwood this Christmas or can take on another, we recommend the Adopt-A-Family program, which this newspaper has sponsored with The Salvation Army since the early 1980s.
As of Monday, almost half of the 253 needy families on the list had not been “adopted” through a $100 donation that provides them with toys, clothing and food at Christmas.
Nearly every year, this community has responded generously to ensure that all the families were spoken for. We have faith it will come through again.
