Andrew Cuomo’s political career was doomed after the attorney general from his own party released a report confirming multiple accusations of sexual harassment by the Democratic New York governor.
Cuomo, who initially said he would fight to keep his job and supposedly his presidential ambitions alive, succumbed to the reality that he was in the wrong party and the wrong era if he thought he could get away with unwanted sexual advances and inappropriate behavior toward women.
Cuomo ironically championed the #MeToo movement. This made his private behavior all the more noxious to those who thought his women’s rights’ stands were sincere, rather than politically calculated.
A fellow former New Yorker, Donald Trump, could get away with abusing women sexually and verbally, but Trump was a unique political creature. He also survived two impeachment trials. Cuomo would not have survived his had he not decided to resign.
