Easter for Christians is the season for hope and rebirth. If ever did we need a dose of both, this is such a time.
A rash of tornadoes has haphazardly devastated communities all around the country, nowhere more so than here in Mississippi. School shootings, most recently as close as Nashville, Tennessee, have taken the lives of innocents, including young children. The awful ravages of war continue in Ukraine and other parts of the world. The frequency and severity of these natural and manmade calamities are enough to make one depressed, fearful and discouraged.
Those were also the emotions felt by Jesus’ disciples when he was crucified. But from that gloom would soon spring resurrection and the promise not only of new life now but of life eternal.
As believers commemorate that miracle of all miracles this Sunday, they can be confident that no matter the tragedy they suffer, nothing can conquer Christ’s love for them.
