A Greenwood woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with one count of grand larceny for allegedly stealing a wallet filled with cash last week.
Tracey Young, 47, 417 Elm St., was being held Thursday at the Leflore County Jail. Bond had not been set.

A Memphis woman was arrested Tuesday and charged with three counts of aggravated assault in connection with a shooting in Greenwood that injured one person Saturday.
Tasheka Johnson, 31, 613 Martin Lane, Memphis, was being held in the Leflore County Jail on Wednesday on $30,000 bond.

Sketch of robbery suspect out

A sketch of a suspect in an armed robbery at the Vaiden post office on Saturday has been issued, according to a release from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department.
The suspect robbed the post office at around 9 a.m. No one was injured. The suspect fled north of the post office with an unspecified amount of cash.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
