The Rankin County man who repeatedly bonded out of jail and reportedly attacked his ex-girlfriend pleaded guilty Monday to two felony charges in Scott County Circuit Court.

Tony Boyd was sentenced to 23 years in prison with five years suspended after shooting his former girlfriend Kizzetta McClendon in Morton in March 2020.

Police look for suspects in burglaries

Greenwood police have arrested one suspect and are attempting to identify two others in connection with a series of burglaries on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Police Chief Terrence Craft said at least six vehicles and one business were burglarized, and he believes members of one group of people were responsible for all of the crimes.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
