Man sentenced to 20 years for 2022 shooting

A Carroll County man has been found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to 20 years in prison for a fatal Christmas Day shooting in 2022.
Khadarron Foreman, 30, of McCarley was sentenced in connection with the death of Sammy Bryant of Winona on Dec. 25, 2022.

Citizens warned to watch out for scams

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Department is warning citizens to be on the lookout for scam artists who make offers that seem too good to be true.
In a statement, Sheriff Clint Walker said there has been an increase in scam attempts in Carroll County.

Local news matters to Greenwood. It keeps the people informed and connected. It asks the questions they want answered. It elevates what’s good, and it exposes what’s not.

To do that work well takes skilled reporters and editors, as many as a community can support through advertising, subscriptions and philanthropy.

The Greenwood Commonwealth expanded its newsroom in 2025 by adding Gerard Edic as a reporter covering public safety and other stories of interest to the community.

His position is partially funded by a two-year grant from Report for America, a national nonprofit. Generous supporters in the community donated the matching funds in the first year. We are now raising funds for Year 2.
