A Greenwood man accused of killing a cousin and shooting a brother will soon be returned to Mississippi after fleeing to Alabama.
Edward Bush Jr., 22, has been held in Dallas County since Sunday.
Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said Bush waived his extradition rights on Thursday, clearing the way for his return to Leflore County, though Jackson did not provide an exact timeframe of how long the extradition will take.
Bush is accused of being involved in a shooting Aug. 30 at his home on Canary Cove that he shared with his brother, 26-year-old Demarius Bush, and his cousin, 26-year-old Demontra Ewing.
Demontra Ewing was a supervisor at Milwaukee Tool, and Demarius Bush is an assistant principal and basketball coach at Coffeeville High School.
Ewing was killed, and Demarius Bush suffered several gunshot wounds that resulted in collapsed lungs. Demarius Bush has been recovering at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Sheriff Ricky Banks said Edward Bush, formerly of Clay County, was the primary suspect and issued a statewide warrant for Bush’s arrest. He said at the time Bush should be considered armed and dangerous.
Edward Bush allegedly stole a vehicle in Hale County, Alabama, on Sept. 1. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and Dallas County Sheriff’s Department arrested him about 75 miles away in Dallas County on U.S. 80 between Selma and Marion Junction without incident.
Bush is expected to be charged with murder and aggravated assault. Jackson said Bush has no pending charges against him from Alabama regarding the alleged vehicle theft at this time.
