A Brandon man has been charged with three commercial burglaries in Greenwood this month and is being investigated for several more.
Jimmie McCaster, 51, was arrested Sunday and remained in the Leflore County Jail Monday, Deputy Police Chief Marvin Hammond said.
The charges involve break-ins at God’s Helping Hands Learning Academy, Delta Emporium and Melton Law Firm, according to Hammond.
The Greenwood Police Department received a call at 7:54 a.m. Aug. 4 from an employee of Delta Emporium about a possible burglary at the store on Johnson Street.
Hammond concluded that the burglary most likely occurred the night before.
“According to the police report, somehow he managed to get on top of the building and crawled through the air duct, making his way inside the building, causing major damage,” Hammond alleged.
He said that nothing was reported as being stolen from Delta Emporium.
Then, the Police Department received a call about another burglary at 10:50 p.m. Aug. 6 at God’s Helping Hands Learning Academy on McLemore Street.
A laptop was reported to have been stolen from the child care facility.
The third incident happened over the weekend at Melton Law Firm, 107 E. Market St. Police were alerted at 3:54 p.m. Sunday.
Hammond said that nothing was taken from the building, but motion detectors that were set off may have provided a deterrent.
McCaster used to live in Greenwood, according to Hammond.
McCaster remains under investigation for multiple other burglaries in the Greenwood area, Hammond said.
