No arrests have been made in the recent shooting death of a 63-year-old Itta Bena man, Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks said Wednesday.
Jimmy McGee, who lived at 402 Front St., died from a gunshot wound to his abdomen, Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders said. McGee most likely was shot Saturday, according to Sanders.
Banks said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide. Two suspects were brought in for questioning, but no one has been charged, he said.
Banks said someone who knew McGee reported his death to the Sheriff’s Department at about 7:30 a.m. Monday. Sanders said McGee’s body was found in the front doorway of his house.
Itta Bena Mayor Reginald Freeman said McGee was a former employee of the city’s public works department.
“We would appreciate any citizens of Itta Bena or the surrounding area who have information about the murder of Jimmy McGee to contact the Leflore County Sheriff’s Office,” Banks said. “All information given will be confidential.”
