A trial for a Greenwood man accused of shooting to death six people, including a brother, has been postponed once again.
Tyrell Stigler, 26, has been charged with murder in multiple homicides spanning from 2018 to 2020.
The trial, which was scheduled to start Tuesday, has been continued, ac-cording to information from the Leflore County Circuit Clerk’s Office. A continuance is when one or more attorneys asks for additional time to prepare.
No new trial date has been set.
This is the third time this year that Stigler’s trial has been continued.
Stigler was arrested following a mass shooting at the 400 block of West Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on Oct. 24, 2020.
A family was gathered at a home there following the funeral of a relative.
Authorities claim Stigler drove up to the home and began firing into it with a semiautomatic weapon.
The assault resulted in the deaths of Johnathan Pitts, 42, and Katrina Pitts, 31, both of Chicago, and injuries to several others.
Following his arrest, it was revealed at a pre-trial hearing weeks later that Stigler had allegedly told authorities he had been hired to carry out a targeted killing but arrived at the wrong house.
Stigler is also charged in the shooting deaths of four others.
He is accused of having shot and killed his younger brother, Jakarrius Thomas, 19, who was found dead in a mobile home on Sherman Street in 2018.
Stigler was also charged in connection with three deaths resulting from two separate drive-by shootings in September 2020. Larry Montgomery and William McGee, both 34, were killed on East Johnson Street. Cordarell Stanley, also 34, was killed on Garrard Avenue.
In total, Stigler has been charged with four counts of first-degree murder, two counts of capital murder, eight counts of aggravated assault, one count of shooting into a dwelling, one count of possession of a controlled substance enhanced by firearm and one count of trafficking enhanced by firearm.
Court filings show Stigler has pleaded not guilty to the charge related to Thomas’ death.
No pleas have been submitted for other charges, but requests for plea offers have been made to the prosecution.
