Two men in separate domestic violence cases have pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, as announced in a release from District Attorney Dewayne Richardson.
Roy Williams Jr., 39, and Sean Massey, 46, submitted their pleas on Monday, the prosecutor said.
Williams was charged in the death of his former girlfriend, 32-year-old Vanessa Miller.
On July 31, 2019, authorities responded to a shooting at the intersection of Coleman and Perry streets.
Witnesses said Williams rammed his vehicle into a vehicle in which Miller was riding in the passenger seat. Williams then got out and began firing shots at Miller.
The release said Williams was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Because he has two prior nonviolent felony convictions, he is not eligible for early release or parole.
Massey was charged in the death of his girlfriend, 40-year-old Kassicy Garrett, on May 27, 2021, at the Regency Inn.
Authorities responded to a call that night reporting a person had been injured and a man was walking around the motel with an ax. Garrett’s body was found in a hotel room. Through surveillance footage, Massey was identified as the last person to be seen entering and exiting the woman’s room before her body was found.
Massey was sentenced to 30 years — 25 years in prison and five years of supervised release. He will not be eligible for early release or parole.
