Greenwood mayoral candidate Kenderick Cox will not be contesting his defeat.
In a Facebook post he made Monday, the Democratic challenger cited the “lack of overwhelmingly tangible evidence of any wrongdoing” in his decision to not challenge the results of his June 8 race against incumbent Carolyn McAdams.
In the certified tally, McAdams, an independent, was declared the winner with 1,604 of the total votes, or 49%, to 1,510, or 46%, for Cox.
McAdams said Cox spoke to her Monday, the last day for filing a legal challenge.
“He came in here very graciously and conceded and told me congratulations and shook my hand,” McAdams said. “I complimented him on having the interest of the city at heart and also running a good race. I think he ran an excellent race.”
McAdams will be serving her fourth term as mayor.
Cox could not be reached for further comment.
