Carroll Academy’s boys basketball team placed three players in double figures en route to a 57-22 win over visiting Calhoun Academy Tuesday night.
Senior Noah Beck led the way with 22 points, and fellow seniors Mathis Beck and Drake Dunn had 10 points apiece. Owen Garrett tacked on seven points, and Cohen Blaylock tallied six points.
Carroll, 13-5 overall, led 15-7 after one, 39-12 at the half and 55-17 after the third period.
The Lady Rebels dropped a 36-34 to Calhoun to fall to 10-10 overall. Carroll led 9-5 after one but Calhoun took a 16-14 lead at the half. The Lady Rebels led 25-23 after the third period.
Anna Laken Taylor had 11 points, and Meri Brynn Reeves finished with nine points. Ann Shelby Whitworth tacked on eight, and Bella Carter had five points.
In the junior high girls game, Carroll won 21-15 as it led 7-2 after one, 13-10 at the half and 15-10 after the third. Carlie Hoover had 11 points, and Kaylyn Wiltshire tacked on six.
In the junior high boys game, the Rebels prevailed 31-24 as Collin Hurst poured in a team-high 15 points. Joseph McCrory had five points, and Cohen Blaylock and Will Neil had four points each.
Carroll entertains Lee Academy Monday.
-J.Z. George: Visiting East Webster pulled off a sweep of J.Z. George Tuesday night in Region 4-2A action in North Carrollton.
In the boys game, East Webster won 76-46 as it led 18-10 after the first, 42-22 at the half and 60-35 after the third frame.
Deshawn Hemmingway led the Jags (4-15 overall, 1-3 in region) with 16 points. BJ Green tacked on eight, and Rodney Catron had seven. Jeremiah Williams had five points.
In the girls game, East Webster claimed a 79-39 as it led 24-12 after one and 49-22 at the half. Aaniyah Williams led the Lady Jaguars (3-19, 1-3) with 26 points. Kamiya Williams had six points, and Sharissa Gladness tallied five.
J.Z. George hosts Choctaw County Friday.
-Pillow Academy: The Lady Mustangs are the top seed for the District 1-5A Tournament next week at Bayou Academy.
Pillow (20-5 overall) went 10-0 in conference play to earn the No. 1 seed. The Lady Mustangs will play the winner of the Starkville and Magnolia Heights game on Feb. 3 at 4 p.m. in the semifinals. Starkville and Magnolia Heights square off at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Bayou is the second seed and also got a bye. The Lady Fillies will play the winner of Tuesday’s contest between Heritage and Washington School at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 3. The championship game is at 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 4. The consolation game is at 1 p.m. All four teams advance to the North State 5A Tournament at Simpson Academy Feb. 7-11.
On the boys side, the Mustangs (8-16) are the fifth seed and take on Bayou, the fourth seed, at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday at Bayou. A win and Pillow advances to the semifinals against Heritage, the top seed, at 7:45 p.m. on Feb. 3.
The boys consolation and championship games are played Feb. 4 at 2:15 p.m. and 5 p.m. All four teams move on to the North 5A tournament.
The Pillow junior high girls play Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the District 1-5A Tournament at Starkville against the victor of Wednesday’s game between Starkville and Heritage.
