Greenwood High School had a week to rest and recharge after falling 52-6 to Senatobia High School two weeks ago in Senatobia, and now the Bulldogs are looking forward to Friday’s Region 3-4A matchup with Gentry High School in Indianola.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
Greenwood head coach Clinton Gatewood wasn’t thrilled about losing a region game to Senatobia two weeks ago, but the bye week gave some of his players a chance to get healthy.
“Its been a great opportunity for some of our kids to heal and get better. We’ve had some kids out since the Clarksdale game and they’ve had an opportunity to get better,” Gatewood said.
Some key players for Greenwood have had small nagging injuries. Landon Williams, Demetrius Robinson, Kizear Little and Javeon Smith are all players Gatewood named that have been dealing with some slight tweaks.
Now healthy, the players are ready to battle for their first region win, and beating Gentry (5-3 overall, 1-2 in region) could boost Greenwood (4-4 overall, 0-2 in region) to third in the district.
“It’s a big game, we are basically fighting for third in the district. We still have to fight for respect in the district, but I think being able to rest came at the right time,” Gatewood said.
With just one more game scheduled for the regular season after Gentry, getting a win over the Rams could help Greenwood’s chances of making a deep post-season run.
