The Mississippi Valley State University men’s basketball team struggled offensively against Arkansas State Thursday in Jonesboro, Arkansas, falling to the Red Wolves 58-38.
Guard Terry Collins once again led the way for the Delta Devils, scoring a team-high 12 points, and added one steal with three rebounds to his totals.
Kadar Waller was second in scoring for Valley with eight points. He also notched two rebounds and two assists.
MVSU took a 30-20 deficit to halftime and wasn’t able to match Arkansas State’s efficient scoring.
The Red Wolves (5-3 overall) shot 53.8% from the field, and was 43.8% (7-16) from behind the arc. The Delta Devils shot 29.2% from the field and 23.1% (3-13) from three.
Valley’s loss on Thursday pushed the Delta Devils to 1-8 overall, and will face a tougher opponent in undefeated Mississippi State University (8-0) Saturday.

-Women’s basketball: Zakiya Mahoney had another great outing for the Devilettes on Thursday in Itta Bena, but her efforts couldn’t stop the offensive onslaught of the No. 16 University of Utah, and the Devilettes lost 109-42.
Mahoney captured SWAC Impact Player of the Week this week and continued her excellent play by scoring a team high 20 points with five rebounds against the Utes.
Elisa Saffold was second in scoring with eight points. Most of her points came from beyond the arc as Saffold was 2-of-3 from deep.
The Utes were able to score at least 20 points in every quarter but the first (17), and the Devilettes weren’t able to score more than 10 points in a quarter except in the third (18).
The Devilettes’ loss pushed the squad to 1-6 overall, while the Utes moved to 7-0.
Mahoney and crew move on to face The University of New Orleans (1-4 overall) on Wednesday in New Orleans.
