This week, the Leflore County Board of Supervisors agreed to designate December as “Donor’s Month,” as requested by the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency.
The point of the designation is to build awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation.
If you have not signed up to be a donor when you die, consider these statistics, as provided by MORA: An organ donor can save up to eight lives, and a tissue donor can improve up to 75 lives.
The easiest way to indicate you wish to be a donor is to have it noted on your driver’s license. But also communicate your wishes to your family.
Time can be a critical element, especially when it comes to harvesting organs, so you don’t want your grieving survivors left in doubt as to what to do.
