A 19-year-old woman arrested by Greenwood police officers for shooting at dogs earlier this week says authorities nabbed the wrong person.
"I did not shoot at the dogs," said Sindey Edwards of 909 Howard St. "But the dogs are terrible around here."
She'll tell her story again to a judge in municipal court on Jan. 30.
Edwards said officers showed up in the neighborhood early Tuesday morning to investigate a report that shots were fired at loose dogs.
"He approached me and asked me my name, and I asked him why," Edwards said.
During the exchange, she said, the officer accused her of shooting at the dogs.
"I told him I didn't shoot at the dogs," Edwards said.
Assistant Police Chief Henry Purnell told the Commonwealth that no dogs were injured or killed by Edwards. He said she had a 9-mm handgun.
Not true, said Edwards.
"They searched my purse and around my waist and everything, but they didn't find a gun because I didn't have one."
Harris said the woman came forward as the shooter.
Not true, said Edwards. Police officers continued to act as though she shot at the dogs, so "I put my hands out in front of me toward the officer and said, 'if you're going to take me to jail, then do it.'"
Officers accused Edwards of discharging a firearm within city limits, public profanity and resisting arrest.
She denied all the charges Thursday afternoon.
