Two men remain under custody in the investigation of an armed car robbery early Wednesday morning.
Greenwood Deputy Chief Henry Purnell said the investigation is ongoing and declined to release further details.
An arrest report indicates that Tyrone Jackson, 31, and his brother-in-law, Kevin Johnson, 26, were arrested at 3:30 a.m. for an armed carjacking.
The incident allegedly took place at the corner of 10th Street and Leflore Avenue.
Purnell said today they have yet to be charged with the crime.
Jackson's wife of eight years, Joyce, claims the carjacking never took place, and that police beat her husband and her brother.
Jackson lives with her husband and 7-year-old son, Justin, in the rear of the Leflore Avenue Washateria. Her brother sleeps at their home periodically.
Everyone had been in bed since midnight when police banged on the door, according to Jackson.
She said police officers barged into the home and handcuffed her brother and husband. One of the officers hit her husband in the face, Jackson claims.
Since the arrest, Jackson has talked with her husband once. Jackson said her husband told her he and Johnson were beaten and denied medical treatment.
Purnell said her charges of brutality do not hold up. The Leflore County Jail will not hold injured prisoners until they have been examined by a doctor, the deputy chief said. "We have received no calls from the jail that these men need medical attention."
Investigators will interview Jackson and give her a chance to tell her side of the story, Purnell said.
