Participation in Mississippi Valley State's girls' basketball camp continues to grow.
Nate Kilbert's fifth annual basketball camp, which drew a record crowd of 100 kids, ends late this afternoon after three days of learning and fun.
"Our numbers have gone up each year, especially this year because we have more teams in attendance. The team from West Point is here because we recently signed a kid from that high school," said Kilbert, who is in his fifth season as MVSU's women's head coach. "The first year we started with a little more than 50 kids, but things really sky-rocketed this year.
"We're thankful for that, and hopefully that means we're doing a good job with the camp and the women's basketball program."
Girls grades 7-12 showed up at the Itta Bena campus Sunday to register. On Monday, they began learning offensive and defensive fundamentals and taking part in educational seminars.
More than 60 of them stayed on campus in dormotories during their camp experience.
"Most of our campers are from the Mississippi Delta. We've got one girls from Dallas and two others from Arkansas," Kilbert said.
