VAIDEN - A two-vehicle accident Friday night on Mississippi 35 claimed the life of a 14-year-old, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Tiffany Haymond of Vaiden was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Staff Sgt. Jimmie Dale Thomas, the public affairs officer, for the Patrol's Troop D based in Greenwood.
"It happened at around 8:27 p.m. There was one fatality and two people injured," he said.
According to the accident the Patrol's report, Catrina Peterson, 26, of Lexington was heading southbound on Mississippi 35 in a 1997 Mitsubishi sedan, in which Tiffany was a passenger.
About 10 miles north of Vaiden, Thomas said, Peterson's vehicle apparently crossed the two-lane highway's center line and struck a northbound 2002 Ford driven by Charlie McBride, 55, of Vaiden.
Tiffany was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident, Thomas said.
Carroll County Coroner Ken Strachan said Tiffany was ejected from the vehicle during the collision. She was pronounced dead at the scene at 8:44 p.m., he said.
Roberts & Sons Mortuary of Winona is in charge of funeral arrangements.
Thomas said Peterson was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center in Jackson where she remains in critical condition this morning.
Although McBride sustained some injuries in the crash, Thomas did not know the extent of his injuries based upon the accident report.
