A head-on collision Sunday afternoon on U.S. 49 East near Sidon claimed the lives of two elderly Leflore County men, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
Stone Pittman, 91, of Greenwood and Curtis Logan, 85, of Sidon were pronounced dead at the scene by Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders shortly after 1:29 p.m., said Sgt. Jimmie Dale Thomas, the public affairs officer for Troop D in Greenwood.
Thomas said that according to the reports of troopers who worked the accident, Pittman was driving northbound in his 1996 Buick LeSabre when Logan, who was driving southbound in a 1984 Chevy C-10 pickup, apparently crossed the center line and collided with Pittman.
Logan was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. Pittman was not, Thomas said.
Logan's daughter, Martha Ann Cates, contacted at her father's home, said her father was a retired welder at Greenville Shipbuilding in Greenville.
When he was working, he commuted daily to Greenville from Sidon.
Logan was a man of faith, his daughter said.
"He believed in God and Jesus. He was a Christian," Cates said.
Logan was a member of Valley Hill Baptist Church.
Logan is also survived by his wife, Mary Bell Logan of Sidon; and a son, Bobby Curtis.
Funeral arrangements for Logan have not been finalized, Cates said. Williams & Lord Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Attempts to contact Pittman's family this morning were not successful.
