Authorities have arrested a Carroll County pair they believe responsible for the mid-week burglary of Beach Bums gift shop.
The suspects remain in custody today at Leflore County Jail.
The couple is also linked to a Wednesday purse snatching in the Piggly Wiggly grocery store.
Andrea Ansley, 21, Route 2, Box 162 F, Carrollton, is accused of one of count of robbery and another of burglarizing a business.
A passenger in a white pickup stopped by police who responded to the purse heist, Larry Wayne Nester Jr., 32, Route 2, Box 1583, Carrollton, is accused as an accessory after the fact in both crimes.
Deputy Police Chief Henry Purnell said this morning that bond had not been set, but a preliminary hearing probably would be held today.
Purnell said the burglary at Beach Bums on West Park Avenue most likely took place at night. But Greenwood police received the call from the owners at 8 a.m. Wednesday, shortly after the robbery call at 7:26 a.m.
The glass in the front window was smashed, and $188 from a cash register was stolen, Purnell said.
Three billfolds were reported missing, the deputy chief added.
Authorities haven't recovered the cash or the billfolds, Purnell said.
At the Piggly Wiggly, police reports state that Ansley approached a woman in the store and asked for her purse twice. When the victim relinquished the purse, Ansley bolted out the door.
Purnell said the manager made the call, and described the vehicle and its direction.
Greenwood police and deputies from the Leflore County Sheriff's Department stopped the couple on U.S. 49 soon after someone from the store reported the incident.
The purse was returned with all its contents, including $11 in cash. "We're out there patrolling," said Purnell. "It's not hard to stop people when you're on the spot."
