JACKSON - A federal grand jury has indicted three people for the killing of a witness who was to testify at a forgery trial.
The decapitated body of Clovis Reed, 51, was found in Simpson County on April 4. Reed's car was found abandoned in Jackson.
Levon Edmond, 41, of Canton; Kathleen Nelson, 45, of Magee; and Roosevelt Walker, 35, of Mendenhall, were indicted this week on charges of killing Reed. Edmond's daughter, Shunterria Edmond Wiggins, 23, of Canton, who was arrested Tuesday, was indicted on charges of hiding the trio from authorities.
Reed had been scheduled to testify against Nelson and Edmond when she disappeared in April.
Nelson and Edmond were accused of stealing a $50,000 government check from Reed.
The indictment alleges the two set up a bank account using Reed's name and cashed the check. Nelson is accused of posing as Reed to bank officials.
Reed had been awarded the money as part of a settlement between black farmers and the U.S. Department of Agriculture, prosecutors said.
Edmond and Nelson were each indicted for forgery, theft, bank fraud, mail fraud and obstruction of justice. They are being held without bond in the Madison County Jail.
FBI special agent Edwin L. Worthington said Wednesday that Walker was arrested in Arkansas and would be returned to Mississippi to face the charges.
The indictment alleges the three intercepted Reed's car, drove her to Simpson County and killed her, then left her car at a Jackson apartment complex.
The indictment also reflects a previous FBI affidavit that the three made calls in a pattern on the night Reed disappeared that moved from where Reed was last seen alive in Canton to where her car was found to the area where her body was discovered.
The indictment alleges Wiggins lied to the grand jury when she claimed to have had her mother's and Nelson's phones at her mother's home the night records show they were being used in Canton, Jackson and in Simpson County.
