CARROLLTON - Carroll County Supervisors have agreed to extend tax-exempt status to Mississippi Printing if the company moves to Carroll County.
The decision came Monday, when Supervisors acted on a request made via letter March 19 by the Greenwood-based company's president, Robert Hardin Jr. He was not available for comment this morning.
Mississippi Printing is negotiating with Timothy Foley of Monona, Iowa, to buy property at the Greenwood Leflore Airport, which is located in Carroll County.
Hardin indicated in the letter that he was seeking a letter of intent regarding the ad valorem tax-exempt status for "land, building, and equipment" in order to pursue financing.
Hardin told the supervisors the move would include $2 million worth of state-of-the-art equipment. Currently, his outfit employs 15 people. Within two years, Hardin said he hopes to add 10 more positions.
The airport property for which Mississippi Printing is negotiating used to house a factory making wire harnesses for automotive sun visors. It is located near the Army Reserve center.
Chancery Clerk Sugar Mullins said the board acted to approve Hardin's request after conferences with supervisors and getting a recommendation from the Carroll County Development Association.
Technically, the company must apply to the Mississippi Tax Commission for the tax-exempt status after the project is completed.
The board's action is considered a contract, however.
In Greenwood, Mississippi Printing is located at 200 Cotton St.
