The Greenwood Garden Club will host a flower show themed "A Spring Revival: A Salute to the Gulf Coast" Thursday at the State Garden Club Headquarters on Market Street.
The show is from 1-6 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
The club has a show of this magnitude every other year. "We would love everyone to come out," said Marianna Madden, club president.
The flower arrangements being judged at the show will not be traditional arrangements. The arrangements will be focused on artistic interpretation of the theme, Madden said.
"When you're looking at flower arrangements, you're talking about art and rhythm and balance," she said.
Designs categories are "Reflections of Katrina, "Rebuilding the Future," "Visions of Tomorrow, "Dinner at Beauvoir," "Brunch Under the Oaks" and "Lazy Days of Sun and Sand."
On Wednesday from 2:30-5:30 p.m., the public is also invited to bring grown items to the State Garden Club Headquarters for judging, said Sherry Clark, show chairman.
The public may bring annuals, perennials, bulbs, trees, shrubs and container-grown plants no larger than 20 inches in diameter. All horticulture will be displayed at the show, she said.
The show will also include exhibits. One, titled "The Greening of the Coast," is about a national Garden Club project to replace trees and plants lost in Hurricane Katrina. "Historical Landmarks of the Coast" is another educational exhibit.
Representatives from Turnrow Book Co. will exhibit coastal books for sale.
New Mechanics will display a new type of oasis - the base used to make flower designs.
The Garden Club participates in many activities to help beautify Greenwood, Clark said.
She hopes the public "will come and see what the ladies are doing," she said.
