A Sidon woman's assault charge has been upgraded to murder after her hospitalized boyfriend died of blood loss from a stab wound.
Catherine Neal, 46, of 28098 County Road 511 was arrested around 9:20 p.m. Sunday after Leflore County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a domestic violence dispute at her residence. She was charged with aggravated assault in the stabbing of her boyfriend, Charles Chandler.
Deputies found Chandler at the scene with a stab wound from a kitchen knife on his inner thigh, according to Ken Spencer, a sheriff's investigator.
Chandler was taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. He underwent surgery and was placed in the intensive care unit, before dying Monday morning, Spencer said.
"Apparently, from what they told us, the knife did chip the artery, and there was a lot of blood loss from the wound," Spencer said.
The body has been sent to Mississippi Mortuary Services in Pearl for an autopsy. Neal has been released on a $20,000 bond.
