This year's second Clean Up Green Up week will begin Monday.
"As a whole, the city already looks pretty good. We're real pleased," said Carolyn McAdams, chairman of the event for the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce.
The Community Pride Committee sponsors the twice yearly litter pickup. Concentrating cleanup efforts in targeted areas should diminish the worst of Greenwood's litter, McAdams said.
She and fellow committee members need volunteers this week to assign litter cleanup spots.
Part of the fall campaign will include new signs around town reminding citizens to keep Greenwood tidy.
Jones Sign Co. has donated the first two signs - one at Main Street's median as motorists come into Greenwood and the other on the corner of West Park Avenue and Grand Boulevard.
"I'd like to see a cleaner city. It's my home," Johnny Jones, owner of the sign company, said.
Committee members are securing green garbage receptacles to place around the city.
Marion Howard, Community Pride Committee chairman, said preventing litter is just as important as picking it up.
