The folks at the Greenwood-Leflore County Chamber of Commerce, as well as many of the dedicated runners in the area, have been hard at work preparing for the 26th Annual 300 Oaks Road Race.
This event, which will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, features a 10K run, a 5K walk and a One-Mile Fun Run.
The 10K run will begin in front of St. John's United Methodist Church on Grand Boulevard. The 5K walk will follow shortly after at 8:05 a.m., and the Fun Run will be held after the walk finishes around 9 a.m.
About 30 road guards will be stationed throughout the race course to direct traffic and stop cars.
All three of the races are open to all ages.
Trophies will be awarded to the overall winners, male and female winners, and winners in each age group.
All race participants will receive a T-shirt. Lasa Bennett, the winner of the youth T-shirt contest, received $100 for her design. Misty Dixon designed the adult T-shirts.
A pre-race party for out-of-town guests will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday in the Chamber auditorium. Those in attendance will be able to pick up their race packets and door prizes will be given out as well.
A post-race party will be held Saturday following the races at Clerico Park. Will Pleasants, who performed at last year's party, will be back to provide musical entertainment, and race participants will be treated to hamburgers, hot dogs, veggies, chips and beverages.
The cost to register is $15 for individuals, or $18 on race day; $35 for families; $11 per member for corporate teams of five or more; and $8 per member for youth teams.
Individuals and families of up to four members may register on-line at www.greenwoodms.com or in person at the Chamber office at 402 Hwy 82 Bypass. Corporate teams must register at the Chamber.
