Greenwood police are looking for a 17-year-old suspect in a Tuesday night shooting that left two people wounded.
Kaska McGill, who lists his address as either 319 Noel St.
or 1202 Jordan St., is being sought for aggravated assault in the shootings of David Williams, 18, 109½ E. Percy St.
and a 17-year-old female, according to Detective Capt. Mel Andrews, chief of detectives.
"We had a person of interest. Now, I've got the warrants," Andrews said this morning.
Although he is a juvenile, McGill is being charged as an adult in the case on the aggravated assault charge and use of a deadly weapon.
"When a 17-year-old commits a violent crime with a weapon, you don't handle him in Youth Court," Andrews said.
According to the detective, the incident started shortly after 5 p.m. at the intersection of McLaurin Street and Hunter Alley.
Andrews said the shooting stemmed from roughhousing between McGill and Williams.
At one point, he said, McGill struck Williams in the face. Williams in turn grabbed McGill's hat off his head and turned away.
"McGill came out with a revolver and started blasting before Williams could even give the hat back," the detective said.
The female - a innocent bystander to the incident, Andrews said - was struck once in the right leg. She was taken to Greenwood Leflore Hospital afterward by car. She was treated and released Tuesday night.
Williams was struck three times in the buttocks. He was also taken by car to the hospital. He has since been discharged, according to a hospital spokeswoman this morning.
Andrews said he interviewed five eyewitnesses to the shooting, so he feels good in the identification of McGill as the suspect in the case.
McGill apparently had a record as a juvenile and had previously been in custody at one time. His mug shot was on file with police.
The Greenwood Police Department is requesting the public's help in apprehending McGill. Residents may call the department at 453-3311.
