The Pillow Academy varsity boys dropped a 67-58 decision to Kirk Saturday.
Pillow jumped out to a 19-9 lead in the first period, and held a narrow 27-25 lead at the half. The Mustangs extended that lead to 44-36 at the end of three, but they could not hold on in the fourth as Kirk rallied from behind for the win.
Pillow was led by John Paul Walker who had 14 points and nine rebounds. Michael Boler had 12, and Norwood Taylor scored 12 points and had eight assists and five steals.
The junior high boys held Kirk scoreless in the first and third periods to defeat Kirk 40-6.
The Mustangs led 10-0 at the end of the first period and held a 22-4 lead at the half.
A strong defense held Kirk scoreless in the third period as the Mustangs came out with a 36-4 lead.
Leading scorers were Garner Williams with 19 and Lanny Fratesi with 13.
The Pillow Academy varsity girls defeated Kirk Academy 49-39 in overtime.
The game was close throughout, with Pillow holding a 7-3 lead at the end of the first and a 15-14 lead at the half. The game was tied 24-24 at the end of three and 38-38 at the end of regulation.
Malone Gregory led the way for the Lady Mustangs with 16 points. Meredith Coleman had 11 points, four rebounds and four assists. Kate Flanagan added 6 points and seven rebounds.
The junior high girls also added another win to their season with a 34-6 victory over Kirk.
Pillow led 13-0 at the end of the first and 23-0 at the half. Kirk finally got on the board in the third, but Pillow held a 28-4 lead at the end of three.
Amy Beckwith led the way with 12 points, followed by Stribling Whites with 7.
