The Mustangs defeated Heritage Academy 44-37 Tuesday night
at Pillow for their first North AAA conference victory.
With the score tied at 34-all with 41/2 minutes left in the contest, Pillow scored the next eight points to take control. Martin Tribble started things with a putback, Will Brunson then added two baskets and Markus Thomas capped things with a breakaway layup on an outlet pass from Brunson.
That run put the Mustangs up 42-34 with 1:09 left in the contest.
Pillow (3-7) led 21-18 at the half after closing out the second period with back-to-back buckets by Pate Shackelford and Brunson.
The Mustangs led by as many as six in the third, but Heritage fought back to take a 33-32 lead heading into the fourth period.
Brunson led PA with 19 points, and Shackelford added 10.
The PA junior high boys won 46-32 as Daniel Allen scored 17 points and Taylor Young added nine.
In the girls' varsity game, Pillow won 47-29 to improve to 8-6 overall.
The Lady Mustangs led 11-7 at the end of the first period and 23-19 at the half. They were up 40-23 at the end of the third.
Junior Betsy Nelson led the way with 13 points, five rebounds and four assists. Courtney Burgess had 10 points and Morgan Woods added eight. Mary Elizabeth Harper had eight points and a team-high nine rebounds.
In the girls' junior high game, PA wom 43-11 to move to 8-2.
Carolyn Wellborn had eight points, six rebounds and four steals. Reynolds Whites had eight points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists.
