One of two men indicted in the May 2004 shooting death of Terry Malone has pleaded guilty in Leflore County Circuit Court to accessory after the fact of murder.
Perezea Love of 415 Kinney St. entered the guilty plea mid-afternoon Tuesday in Judge Ashley Hines' chambers as members of a jury pool waited for selection and the trial to begin in the courtroom.
Love is expected to testify against Isaac Montrell Lucas of 102 Ainsworth St., charged with murder. Lucas' trial date is set for Jan. 9, 2006.
"We're very happy with that," said Brad McCullouch, the assistant district attorney said of the plea. "We believe justice has been served with that plea."
The court record shows that Terry Malone, a 21-year-old Carroll County man, was shot while driving his 1999 silver GMC pickup truck.
He sought aid at the Shell-Go convenience store at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 7 and Carrollton Avenue after he was wounded.
Malone was flown down to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, where he died about nine hours later.
Court records show that Malone suffered a gunshot wound to the left side, between the seventh and eighth ribs. The bullet ripped through his chest cavity, stomach and liver and grazed his heart.
The shooting came during a flurry of violence in Greenwood that saw two people, including Malone, die and two others wounded.
Even ministers called a conference to seek an end to the violence among young people.
