Greenwood High School likely will get a new principal next week.
Dr. Leslie Daniels, district superintendent, says he will present a candidate to the Greenwood School Board when it meets at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday at the central office on Howard Street.
Daniels, other administrators and board members Margaret Clark, Barbara Gray and Debbie Oxnam talked about who would be hired in open and closed session during a working meeting Thursday, also at the central office.
George Noflin, 44, the high school principal for four years, resigned June 12 to take an assistant superintendent's post in Tupelo. This was three weeks before July 1, the beginning of the district's financial year.
Daniels said to the board Thursday that the search for Noflin's replacement, including local and statewide newspaper advertisements, had yielded applications by people who are underqualified or not immediately available.
"We have not had any candidate to bring to you," he said.
The board discussed personnel at length when it closed the meeting.
Daniels said afterward that he will not be proposing to rehire someone who used to work for the district.
Lorita Harris and Kirby Love were assistant principals last year at Greenwood High School. Harris is the Greenwood Middle School's new principal, and Love is the Greenwood Career and Vocational Center's new director.
The board has hired two assistant principals for GHS: Paul Barnhardt and Cassandra Hart, who will be new to the district.
Elementary school principals within the district are Percy Powell, Threadgill; Dr. Gwendolyn Chandler, Davis; Brenda Brown, W.C. Williams; and Kaye McCrory, Bankston.
