A 21-year-old Greenwood man remained under guard this morning at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, accused in the Monday night shooting death of 23-year-old Carlos Summerville of 506 Ave. L in Greenwood.
The suspect, Narada Smith, was also injured in the shooting, which occurred at his residence at 1202 Hilton St., Apt. 22, Leflore County Sheriff Ricky Banks said. Smith was taken from the scene in an ambulance.
"We have him under guard in the hospital right now," Banks said. "He will be charged with murder."
Three other men are being held for investigation.
Banks said investigators have not determined a motive for the shooting, which occurred at around 8 p.m. at Smith's residence in the W.J. Bishop Apartments near Amanda Elzy High School.
"There has been talk about a dice game the night before and arguing over a gun," Banks said. "Who took what from who and that type of thing."
Sheriff's Department officers removed five firearms from the scene Monday night: three handguns, a 12-gauge shotgun and an assault rifle.
Banks said a woman who lived in the apartment and a man named John Taylor were in the house with Summerville and Smith at the time of the shooting.
The woman was questioned and released. Taylor is being held in the Greenwood City Jail for the Sheriff's Department.
Summerville's cousin, Kerry Summerville, 19, of 512 Ave. I and Cedric Groves, 19, of 403 Rising Sun Circle are also being held for investigation by the Sheriff's Department.
Kerry Summerville was outside the apartment at the time of the shooting, Banks said.
Banks said officials have not found any evidence that this incident is connected to a Feb. 22 shooting outside Kerry Summerville's Avenue I home in Greenwood.
He said investigators worked through Monday night and this morning, and the investigation is ongoing.
