A Greenwood man died Tuesday after being struck by a Greenwood Utilities vehicle while crossing Howard Street Monday.
Odell Waters, 81, of 121 Palace St. was treated at Greenwood Leflore Hospital following the 3 p.m. accident and was released shortly before 5 p.m. He returned to the hospital Tuesday morning and was transferred to University Medical Center in Jackson, where he died.
The accident happened while Waters was walking off Wright Place, which is an alley that runs into Howard at the intersection with Carrollton Avenue.
The driver of the truck, Tommy Kyle, 55, was traveling south on Howard Street when he stopped for the intersection's traffic light, said Sgt. Lee Taylor, Greenwood Police Department spokesman.
As the light turned green, Kyle proceeded south on Howard, where the accident victim was crossing the Wright Place alley, Taylor said.
Waters saw the truck coming toward him and waved his hand, but Kyle did not stop, Taylor said.
The accident is still under investigation by the Greenwood Police Department. There has not been a coroner's ruling on the cause of death.
