A 21-year-old Leflore County man has charged District 5 Supervisor Larry "Kite" Johnson with simple assault following an incident Saturday night at Johnson's Spotlite Skating Rink.
The charge was still being processed this morning, and Sheriff Ricky Banks said he would notify Johnson when he receives the paperwork.
"Once I get the warrant, I'll probably call him and tell him to come here," said Banks.
Willie Powell, 105 Maple St., said he filed a complaint against Johnson Sunday. An affidavit making the charge was dated for today.
Around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Powell said, he was at the skating rink and Johnson told him to step into the kitchen there. Powell said Johnson accused him of taking $30 to $40 worth of quarters.
"He searched one of my pockets. I had $8 in quarters that my cousin had gave me before I came to the skating rink," Powell said.
"He started hitting me all across my face and stuff," Powell said.
Eventually, Powell said he walked away and Johnson left. Powell went home. "That night, my head was hurting. I woke up that morning with a knot on my head," he said.
Powell said he went to Greenwood Leflore Hospital Sunday and was seen by medical personnel, who told him to go to his doctor today.
Johnson said, "I deny all charges. I will just wait until I am served. We'll see each other in court."
Johnson said Powell was an employee. "He was an employee there. He got fired that night for stealing," Johnson said.
Powell said he was not a Spotlite employee, that he helped out there to have something to do and keep out of trouble.
