A Greenwood man is scheduled to be charged with aggravated assault today after the Friday night shooting of a friend.
Walter Moore, 50, of 216 Stephens Ave., remained in Leflore County Jail this morning, according to Deputy Police Chief Huntley Nevels.
The victim, Timothy Robinson, 29, of 428 W. Percy St., was in stable condition at Delta Regional Medical Center this morning, according to his fiancee, who identified herself as Priscilla Robinson.
"He's still hurting. He was shot eight times," she said.
After Robinson was stabilized, his fiancee said, he was able to recognize her from his hospital bed.
Nevels said the dispute apparently turned violent after Moore went to Robinson's home to collect two bags of groceries that Robinson had been keeping for him.
According to Robinson's fiancee, "Timothy wanted to be paid" for keeping an eye on the food for Moore.
Priscilla Robinson was in the house during the time that Moore came by on Friday night. She said she left the two men alone and went to a back bedroom.
Shortly afterwards, Nevels said, the men "got into an argument and a scuffle ensued."
"I heard the scuffle, and then I heard the gunshots," said Priscilla Robinson.
She said Moore had been a close friend to the young couple. "We live close to each other."
Priscilla Robinson said she never knew Moore to carry a handgun. She speculated that the weapon might have been in the home prior to the argument.
Under state law, a conviction for aggravated assault carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
