Although Legends is now under different ownership, customers can expect the same quality service and the same friendly faces.
New owner Amanda Jefcoat purchased the business from previous owner Lagatha Abbott in 2002. Abbott opened the salon in January of 1995.
Jefcoat has been working as a hairstylist at Legends for several years, but Abbott decided after the birth of her grandchild three years ago that she wanted more free time. She casually mentioned it in a conversation one day, and Jefcoat approached Abbott about buying her out.
"We got together and talked about it and just decided to do it," Jefcoat said.
Abbott still works at the salon, which is in the shopping center on the corner of Claiborne Avenue and Grand Boulevard. She works three days one week and four days the next week.
Legends offers all types of hair services for both men and women, including cuts, colors and perms. Waxing is also available, and hairstylist Kassie Scates is also offering manicures and pedicures.
Jefcoat has tried to keep services the same since she took over, but she has made the effort to streamline the salon's product lines.
"We have two full product lines now," Abbott said. "And I think everyone just enjoys being here. Amanda is doing a very good job, and she is very easygoing and easy to get along with."
The salon carries the Alterna product line as well as a full selection of Redken products. Some of the hair products are specifically designed for aging hair.
"We also have special request items that people like," Abbott said. "We can order those as well."
The salon has 10 employees, including hairstylists, receptionists and shampooers. Hairstylists are Abbott, Jefcoat, Scates, Heather Walker and Barbara Smart.
Receptionists are Nancy Byrd, Grace Whitfield and Carmon Bills. Shampooers are Jesse Williams and Belle Pilcher.
Employees are actively involved in training, and they recently participated in an in-salon class. They also will be attending a fall class coming up in Kentucky, which will focus on new hairstyles.
