Greenwood High School started the season with hopes of getting back to the playoffs.
Any chance of attaining that goal is gone after last week's 7-6 loss to Region 4-3A foe Indianola Gentry - leaving the Bulldogs still scrambling for their first win of the season with just three games to play.
The Bulldogs are 0-7 overall, 0-4 heading into Friday night's home game against league foe Ridgeland (4-3, 3-1). Kickoff is set for 7 at Bulldog Stadium.
Greenwood, under the direction of fourth-year head coach Sheldon Hodge, started last season 0-8 before beating Lanier, 22-20, for its only win of the season. The Bulldogs host Lanier next week and then close out the season at Pearl.
The Bulldogs have been outscored 231-55 so far this season and have scored the fourth-fewest points among the 57 teams in the Class 4A ranks. Only Port Gibson (6), Stone (26) and Hancock (41) have scored fewer points than Greenwood.
Ridgeland got off to a rocky start this season opening with back-to-back losses to Class 3A teams Velma Jackson (14-10) and Yazoo County (26-20). But the Titans have won three straight league games and are tied for second place at 3-1 with Callaway and Pearl. Ridgeland beat Pearl 31-7 two weeks ago and Callaway 31-10 last week.
