The Lady Jaguars of J.Z. George trounced on Velma Jackson 18-3 last Monday, bringing their record to 5-5, 3-3 in district play.
Erica Duren was the winning pitcher, striking out five of Velma Jackson's batters and walking none.
Leading hitters in the game were Lurena Robinson, three of three, with a home run; Shauntel Carr, three hits; Anteeata Archie, two hits; Keonna Stanford, two hits; Janita Duren, two hits; Jalissa Coker had her first hit, with a double; and Latryce Phillips had two hits.
The game was called after just four innings.
Even with the win, Coach Tom Hamby felt his team could have played better. "We struck out seven times. That's not good," he said.
On Thursday, the Lady Jaguars lost to South Delta at home 14-10.
Rebecca Wiggins pitched for the Jaguars, striking out four. "She pitched a good game," Coach Hamby said.
She didn't walk anybody. "We struck out 11 times and had eight errors. We couldn't beat Teoc doing that and they don't have a team. For whatever reason, we were a step or two slow," he said.
Outstanding hitters were Anteeatta Archie, three for four and a triple; Sherronda Sykes, three for four; Lurena Robinson, two for four with a triple; and Erica Duren, two for four.
Coach Hamby added that next week will be a difficult one for the Lady Jags, with three games and homecoming week.
"We have three district games. We have a road game Monday to Ruleville, Cleveland Eastside here on Wednesday, and South Delta there on Thursday. This week will tell the tale. Champions learn to play through distractions," Hamby added.
