A future mayor of Itta Bena has a ride in the city's Christmas parade Saturday.
Mayor Thelma Collins said Jeremy Murry, 4, announced his candidacy this week in her office.
The delighted mayor invited Jeremy, son of Itta Bena citizens Melvin and Nivea Murry, to join the parade.
Jeremy will join close to 70 others in the procession.
Mabel Robinson, president of the Itta Bena Community Outreach Committee, said the parade is a reflection of Itta Bena."We're trying to show the unity of the town."
Entrants will line up at 8 a.m. outside Leflore County High School.
The parade will march down Schley Street starting at 9 a.m., wind around the downtown park on Basket Street, then travel back down Main Street to the high school.
Collins started the Christmas parade during her first term in 1996. The last parade was in 2001.
Parade marshals this year are District Attorney Joyce Chiles; the Rev. Johnny Collins; Clay Pettit, owner of the antique store, 1919; and former Itta Bena postmaster Minnie Bidwell.
"We want to show the town pulling together as one," Robinson said.
